BCA
PUBLICATIONS The Newsletter
is
published every two months. It contains news and opinions about Cichlids and
Cichlid keeping, including reports from BCA Committee members and from
affiliated Cichlid groups, reviews of books, videos and scientific papers,
announcements about forthcoming events, short articles about keeping Cichlids,
members’ letters and queries and replies to these questions. In addition, the
Trading Post section allows members to advertise fishes and equipment for sale
and wanted. Cichlidae is the Association’s
official journal. The articles cover every aspect of the study, care and
breeding of Cichlids. Most are contributed by BCA members, but occasionally
articles of exceptional interest are reprinted from other publications. In
1996, our 25th Anniversary year, colour pictures were printed in Cichlidae for
the first time. Information
Pamphlets are
the Association’s reference material. Up to twelve IPs are published each year.
The BCA has built up a collection of over 150 of these pamphlets, forming a unique
reference work. Most IPs give details of the care and breeding of a species of
Cichlid, with a short review of the scientific literature. Others cover
particular topics involved in caring for Cichlids. Copies of all these
pamphlets are available, so that new members can obtain information when they
need it. All the IPs published since number 144 are illustrated with colour
photographs and as the older ones are revised they will be reissued with colour
illustrations. (Currently no IP’s are available, the BCA is in the
process of revising & updating all IP’s) MEETINGS There are two BCA meetings each year, which
are held in different parts of the country in rotation. At the Convention in
March members can hear speakers talk about the latest advances in knowledge
about Cichlids; recent Conventions have included lectures by Ad Konings, Paul
Loiselle. The Annual General Meeting is held in October to discuss the business
of the Association and to elect Officers for the following year. Each of these meetings also includes an Auction, when members
can sell surplus stock and equipment. The fishes on sale often include unusual
species, which are rarely available in shops. SALES The Sales Officer has stocks of most
current books about Cichlids, which members can buy at discount prices. A range
of CD’s, DVD’s and videos are available - some are exclusive to the BCA. Sales
also holds back issues of BCA publications and all the Association’s other
sales goods. The Sales List is published regularly, and all goods are available
to members by Mail Order. The BCA Sales stand visits many major Aquarius’s events each
year. INFORMATION
